Opportunity: Trustee vacancies in marketing and social finance

HOLTOP is looking for two trustees to join the Board from January 2020.  The first role requires someone with experience and expertise in marketing, public relations and communications who can advise the Board on strategies to develop and communicate its messages most effectively.  The second role requires experience in social finance with expertise in giving the board advice on crowd funding or community shares, and how best to develop partnerships with social enterprises, and community businesses. You will possess a qualification in finance eg in accountancy, banking or investment.  These are volunteer roles.  We recognise the value of diversity and welcome applications from all backgrounds. Specific responsibilities for marketing Trustee:

  • To offer advice and support to the Director in the further promotion of the organisation’s profile
  • To advise and support the Director in piloting and undertaking marcomms initiatives (e.g reviewing messaging, placing ads, securing sponsorship, choosing online platforms) to raise awareness and support for the charity
  • To assist the Director in networking within the heritage sector and beyond
  • To review all press releases 
  • To assist in the development of a marketing strategy
  • To advise on the preparation of guidelines for the use of social media

Specific responsibilities for social finance Trustee 

  • To offer advice and support to the Director in the further development of the organisation’s social impact strategy (along with the trustee responsible for social impact) 
  • To support the Director and Project Organisers in identifying opportunities to secure funds via a crowd funding appeal for core costs/and or specific projects, and support them in setting up the systems required to launch an appeal 
  • To assist the Director and Project Organiser in establishing partnerships with social enterprises and community businesses to best exploit the finance available (via the AHF and NLHF and other funders) 

Other duties for all Trustees 

In addition to the above specific duties, the main trustee responsibilities are:

  1. To hold the organisation in trust and ensuring public confidence
  2. To determine the overall strategic direction of the organisation
  3. To provide leadership

This may involve: 

  • Scrutinising/drafting board papers 
    • Leading discussions 
    • Focusing on key issues 
    • Providing guidance on new initiatives 

Time Commitment 

Four full working days per year at a minimum for the attendance at board meetings, one of which includes an AGM. Time given to a committee, and events is in addition. (There are four board meetings a year, plus an AGM- these usually fall in March, June, September and December, and are held at the Trust’s registered address, c/o Smith Brooke Architects: 3 Scout Lane, London SW4 0LA.)
